(TCN) - Comedy Central’s wildly popular The Daily Show - hosted by popular comedian John Stewart - came under attack earlier tonight by Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama as he called Mr. Stewart “racist” and criticized his jokes.

The interview between the two liberal heavyweights began innocently enough, but after John Stewart cracked a joke about Mr. Obama’s slave ancestry, the Senator lambasted John Stewart for the distasteful joke and its inherently racist components.

“John, come on now. Now you’re just being racist,” Mr Obama began. However, John Stewart had apparently interpreted the comment as sarcastic and began laughing. However, Barack Obama was not laughing with him.

“This is not what my people worked so hard for - to see somebody make a mockery of the years of injustice served to us as slaves. We suffer through the ghettos of your major cities just to be discriminated against when searching for a job. My people deserve better than this.”

During the statement, John Stewart refrained from interrupting. But upon conclusion of the speech, there followed an awkward pause before John thanked the guest for coming on the show and pointed him off the stage.

As of now, specualtion has surfaced that the stunt was planned but no conclusive evidence has been presented to support this claim.

John Stewart is expected to address the fallout on tomorrow night’s show.
