New Study finds “Healthy foods” to be UNHEALTHY… “Eat Burger King”

Minneapolis, MN (GBC) - In the latest trend of avoiding certain foods for the sake of health, it seems that even healthy foods themselves have come under fire as being detrimental to your body.

A University of Baruch study released last week claims that “healthy foods in excess can lead to a very unhealthy body,” says lead researcher on the project, Phyllis Roddick. She warns against the commonly believed myth that healthy foods are unequivocally healthy. “Whole grain, low-carb, low-calorie, low saturated-fat. People think these are always healthy things in your food. But we found that in fact, many of these healthy traits are actually very unhealthy.”

Roddick suggests staying on a steady diet of unhealthy foods such as red meat, rich dairy and sugars as being the best way to ensure a healthy body. “You’ll feel stronger, healthier, more alive. Sure, healthy foods can be good too… but in moderation.”

The study was commissioned by a state-sponsored program in Minnesota that looks to investigate health in the state’s school cafeteria’s. The program, called the “Healthy Future Initiative,” is run by Paul Turners who has a history of working for several food manufacturer’s in order to maximize healthiness.  He says, though, that it wasn’t until he saw the terribly unhealthy foods being served in school cafeteria’s across the country that he realized something must be done.

“It was almost entirely healthy foods. Carrots, whole grain, 1% milk, skinless chicken. I thought to myself ‘How can we expect kids of America to even learn with this for lunch?’” So Turners looked for methods in which he could help and created the “Healthy Future Initiative.”

The solution?

Introduce unhealthy foods into the cafeterias. Give children the choice of hamburgers, hot dogs, lasagna. “If you want a healthy child, these things are imperative.” But according to Turners, adults benefit from the same diets as well. “Grab a Burger King or Jack in the Box.  That’s the best way to stay healthy. I would say avoid healthy foods in general but, if you enjoy them, at least try to limit your intake.”

And it seems for now that, at least in Minnesota, people believe Turners right. Starting next school year, district school cafeterias will be scaling back their healthy foods and introducing less healthy alternatives such as pasta, chicken fingers, corn dogs and other favorites. “When I worked for Burger King, this was exactly my job - maximizing healthiness for the foods. But my work there is done. Now it’s time for me to make our children healthier. For their futures and ours.”
